Greetings from Edgehill,

I hope this newsletter finds you safe and healthy. This past week has been a hard one for those of us in Nashville. So many were affected by the tornados including colleagues and families here at USN. To friends recovering from those devastating storms, I am in awe of your strength and resilience. To the entire PDS/USN community, I am grateful for the care and concern you have shown.

As we experience the anxiety of all that life brings, our counselor and parent of alumni Jim Schleicher suggests that "gratitude is the perfect antidote for anxiety."

It is with that in mind that I share what a fabulous time Director Vince Durnan and I had with alumni and friends recently in Philadelphia. Gathered were alumni from the Classes of 1952 to 2019 as well as a current grandparent. We are indeed grateful for the fellowship and support of all of our alumni and families.

In closing, I want to share a photo and honor the life of Ellen Dickinson, teacher at PDS/USN from 1968 to 1992. Rob Laird '86 sent this photo upon receiving the news of Ellen's passing last week. In the words of Vince, "Ellen Dickinson, legendary LS teacher whose career spanned the PDS-USN transition, o she of the piano in her classroom, adored by decades' worth of students and deeply respected by colleagues, passed away this week after 92 remarkably engaged years. She was instrumental in the effort to create USN, and she continued to visit school, checking on us, until her health made that impossible just a few years ago." We are grateful for having Ellen in our school community.
